FIAB 2024

Dear FIAB creator,

I'm vanishresponse on AO3, and thank you for taking a look at this letter!

In general, if there's something opt-in that you think will make your work stronger, consider me opted-in unless it contradicts a DNW! I love works that commit and pull an emotion from me, so go for it! <3

For my sign-ups, I requested a lot of mediums that I thought looked fun, and I would love to see what you come up with for them! I'm happy to receive experimental stuff, and if you're wondering if I want [extremely obscure in-universe document], yes, I do! And if there's a medium of your heart that you want to make, I am opting into Any Nominated Medium, so go for it -- I would be absolutely delighted to see what you make!

Art Likes

Cats, birds, animals in general, landscapes, trees, flowers, tarot, symbolism, long hair, physical intimacy, swords, peaceful or melancholy atmospheres, humor, fluff

Smut Likes:

My biggest smut like is sex that is charged with feelings. I love intensity, and when the sex or kink is an expression or an outlet for the characters' feelings -- whether that's love, attraction, or something else entirely. I like repressed sex, too, and sex as a terrible coping mechanism, and sex that explores a character's relationship with vulnerability or connection! Go for whatever kink or sex acts that suit the feelings!

I also really love power dynamics being explored through sex -- whether the playful taking and ceding of power in a happy relationship or the sex mirroring (or contradicting?) something something darker or angstier. Power struggles are excellent, too, playful or otherwise!

For m/f ships in particular, I very much prefer the power dynamic to be skewed in favor of the woman, and a lot of focus on her pleasure. And if all that involves kneeling cunnilingus or a man who is more interested in her pleasure than his own, all the better!

For some specific likes:

  • Bondage
  • Characters getting off on their partners' pleasure or desire
  • Collars and leashes
  • Couples who know each other's preferences very well
  • Cunnilingus
  • Desperation
  • Edging
  • Fantasizing (especially with masturbation!)
  • Femdom
  • First times
  • Hickeys and other displays of possessiveness, especially if the receiver is kinking on it
  • Kneeling
  • Lots of little kisses and touches during sex (especially shoulder kisses and hand kisses!)
  • m/m anal sex
  • Masturbation
  • Pining while fucking
  • Playfulness, laughter, and humor, especially as a way of showing intimacy!
  • Service Tops
  • Tenderness

A Gathering of Dragons - Milla Vane

Mediums

Anything goes. <3 I would love to see more in-canon documents, and I would also find the r/relationships option very amusing, because gosh Lizzan and Aerax do have a complicated one!

Lizzan
Aerax/Lizzan & Caeb
Aerax/Lizzan

Lizzan is my fave. <3 Her competence! Her kindness and how it comes so naturally to her! I love Aerax too, how he's so motivated by righting the greatest wrong of his society, how he's as much of a predator as his snow cat, and (of course) how much he loves Lizzan. Their relationship -- with the sense of deep understanding, the resentment Lizzan feels toward him at first (and the fact that she still can't stay away), the way he's so obsessed with her -- is everything I love about pining break-ups. And CAEB. Best cat ever! I love him so much and how catlike he is, and his devotion to Lizzan and Aerax. ;_;

Really, just more of them, at any time point! Aerax and Lizzan in the early days, or Aerax and Lizzan raising Caeb! Angst in the period of separation! Lizzan's life as a woobie because of her scars, and the realization of how she's going to be treated by society! Caeb being a big cat at any point! More scenes set during their reunion, or something set in the future after canon! Angst or slice-of-life or them just being extremely happy! <3

Honkai Star Rail

Mediums

In-universe media and things related to the worldbuilding, and more in-universe social media (who is on hobbydrama? XD)! And art of the very pretty characters is always appreciated. <3

Jing Yuan & Yanqing
Jing Yuan & Mimi | Wave-Treading Snow Lion
Mimi | Wave-Treading Snow Lion & Yanqing

I love Jing Yuan so much -- both his wisdom and his relaxation seem so hard-won. "If I succeed, history will state that I am currently supremely confident in my masterful strategy. But if I fail, then history will state that I am currently neglecting my duties in wanton pleasure, preferring finches over my people." and "A master of the chessboard does not always make flashy moves. People take delight from one flashy move that saves the day, but never worry when the entire situation teeters towards a loss." -- his careful approach to problem-solving and risks and his thoughtfulness are just so dear to my heart! And quiet resigned Jing Yuan angst is always appreciated, and the many ways he deals with all that!

And Yanqing! I love his sense of duty and his mix of childishness and maturity, and also how earnest he is -- and the way, in canon, we see his struggle over trying to measure up and trying to handle his first failure. His concern for the kittens in one of his text messages! The swords collecting! The fact that he can actually get distracted by a mediocre novel on his character quest. xD

Character study of either of them would be appreciated! I love their relationship so much, and I would be happy to see more of any of that. Yanqing trying to be a good aide, their training, softer moments, Jing Yuan's perspective on Yanqing... And tell me about Yanqing's swords, please!

Also, the CAT. Please show me more of the lion (and how does Mimi get on with the finches)! I would love to see more of Jing Yuan or Yanqing with the big kitty -- actually, either of them with any animals would be lovely. (Yanqing deserves a kitten with many claws, which are basically swords...)

Aventurine & Stelle

I love seeing them interact in canon -- Aventurine's showmanship, his trying to win a friend with money, and then the entire dramatic boss fight! Comedy, meta, maybe a rare moment of two people with very different viewpoints connecting? I tend to like Stelle with the memes and the fourth wall breaking, but also as someone who is serious when the chips are down (;p) and also devoted to the Express -- but feel free to go with whatever you think bounces off well with Aventurine!

Hanya & Xueyi

Playing the new story quest gave me Feelings about them again -- I love their devotion and loyalty to each other, the constrained circumstances of their lives, and how they're trying to make the best of it. I love the angst (but also the way the angst has become something rather...prosaic for them?), and also the competence kink and how dedicated they are to their jobs!

More exploration of their past, and particularly what happened with Shuhu -- body horror, etc, would be very welcome! Pre-canon moments about what they were like before they were Judges! Ten Lords Commission missions, or fallout from the recent quests (you can assume I'm up to date on the story)! Getting to see them interact with the other judges would be nice too -- I'm particularly fascinated by the fact that Hanya decided to give Huohuo a chance in the commission! What motivated that act of mercy? Works leaning into Hanya's memory loss and Xueyi's robotness -- how both of them are so changed, and how they are concerned for each other! I would love to see something that explores ho More Hanya literary works would also be lovely. ;D

Given the fact that Hanya's name means jackdaw and Xueyi's voiceline says that her name is a reference to birds too, I would love more bird symbolism for the two of them! I'm very into the cold/winter + bird motif going on with the both of them (and the way they are black and white birds respectively).

Luka/Sampo

This tag intrigued me when I saw it in a tagset! I've been fond of Luka ever since his character quest, and I adore Sampo, fourth-wall breaking trickster conman self-described comic relief with a a degradation kink willingness to put himself at a disadvantage that he is. And the hints at his power and the Mask, and the way he does seem to care for the people of Belebog?

I think Sampo's playfulness and sense of distance from what's going on (the follower of Elation sense of distance) would play off really well for Luka -- and perhaps be good for him. Luka needs someone to take his mind off his overwhelming sense of responsibility -- and maybe, to make him laugh! The contrasting life philosophies (and also how much they know of the world -- Sampo has gone all over the cosmos, Luka has only lived in the underground) would be really interesting. At the same time, they both have a sense of compassion -- Sampo has said that he wouldn't find cruelty funny, and he's clearly invested in the wellbeing of Belebog.

Luka catches Sampo in fight fixing shenanigans? Luka gets involved in defending someone who is conned by him? Sampo needs to seduce Luka because Reasons (or just because he wants to)? Maybe Sampo helps him out, or Luka realizes that he isn't so bad after all...

Moze
Jiaoqiu/Moze

I'm very charmed by Moze's edginess and how...playful it seems? Please tell me more about the edgy crow assassin -- or maybe just what other people think of him! (Just how many rumors are there about him? And according to the latest Keeping Up With Star Rail, he has a fan club? xD) Also I think he should be forced to give more interviews because he would be magnificently terrible at it. xD Please put him in uncomfortable situations where his edginess is just completely out of place.

His banter with Jiaoqiu was a lot of fun (and apparently he likes hanging out at Jiaoqiu's place and cleaning it??). I was struck by the fact that he admits that Jiaoqiu is a friend, but also determines that the best thing to do in the present circumstances was not to save him - how cold. <3 I would love to see your take on their relationship, at any point in time! Also, I'm sure the main quest will leave a lot of interesting stuff unresolved -- anything about that would be lovely!

I plan to keep up with the main quest, so please feel free to assume I'm always going to be up to date!

Royal Order

Note for this canon: If there isn't a gender specified for Aarya in the tag, I am happy to receive Aarya of any gender!

Mediums

Any in-universe things! <3 I would be interested in a Sval take on the eddas or sagas -- what would they look like? Or lists of Sval kennings! In-universe art (I would love to see Sval depictions of the Holy Black Tree)!

I am also planning to learn how to make amigurumi, so I would also love newbie-friendly patterns for magical beasts (and/or trees ;P) from this canon to motivate myself with (or more complex patterns to work toward in the future!).

Male Aarya de Chabenet/Emrys of Sheorya

I love them so much! ;_; The deep mutual understanding, the loyalty, the pining, the deep feelings even pre-relationship, the sacrifice, the complicatedness of the relationship (and the way they have to get to know each other again!), how horny so many of their scenes are together (and Aarya escalating! Emrys blushing!), the flirting, the fake dating, how ride-or-die they are fore each other, the notion of Aarya being Emrys's home, fox and tree symbolism... There's so much history, and the ship itself really reflects this shared trauma of loss and war and the pain of survival, and the ways that they suffer. I love every aspect of this ship so much omg, and they're both so competent and so pretty!

I would really truly love anything to do with them. More flirting! Lighter moments! Dealing with their adopted children, Emrys settling back into life among the Sval (how do they explain the kind-of-Lucius-but-kind-of-not thing, or do they not?), PWP, flirtation during the fake relationship, h/c in either direction, angst, pure sap and fluff! Backstory as well -- how did they meet? Also, Emrys POV on anything in canon, please, and especially during the identity porn bits of canon. And canon divergences -- what would have happened if Emrys hadn't been caught by the Sheoryan court, or if he'd escaped sooner? Would he eventually have returned to the Northern Continent?

Male Aarya de Chabenet/Emrys of Sheorya/Lucius

I would love this as a V or a triad, as long as they're all happy!The identity shenanigans going on between Emrys and Lucius are so fascinating to me, and I'm so interested in seeing the discomfort that Lucius and Emrys feel with each other dug into (and maybe, eventually resolved?). The situation of "the part of you that you thought you gave up, which has now developed into something new" is so interesting, and Emrys and Lucius should talk more! (and definitely kiss Aarya and maybe kiss each other?) For hurt/comfort in this, I absolutely prefer Lucius as the comforter -- Lucius is probably the character in this canon I most want to get a hug. ;_;

Lucius

I love his devotion to Aarya across all routes, and his mix of cleverness and wisdom and reserve (and the pining! And the crankiness! And the EARS, which I was mesmerized by on screen). I just love him a lot and want more of him. Please let him be happy (or aesthetically sad, that's good too).

What immediately occurs to me is: I want to know how he almost lost a tail to the Stormhats! The text mentions that Lucius travels a lot -- what kind of adventures is he going on? I'm also really curious about his role among the Sval, as the Seer, and how being a seer in general affects his viewpoint! Fox form! Post-canon wake-up! His visions! Making friends! Also the implications in Iris's route that he's babysitting Tatara!

Emrys of Sheorya

We only see Emrys from Aarya's perspective in the game, and Emrys around Aarya is, I imagine, 1000 times less annoying that he is to everyone else, going by his reputation and the Nerifiel scene. xD Please let Emrys annoy people! Or go into some of the rumors around him, or outsider POV? Politics or backstory would be lovely too! Or, what does his BLack Fox form look like (which I can't believe we still haven't seen)... Otherwise, Emrys should get all the shiny things of his dreams -- tell me about his hoard! ;D

Nerifiel Daevaris/Nils Nerea

Their trust and the way they work so well together are lovely! I would love to see a relationship study of them, and also character study of Nils. I'm really intrigued by how Nils ended up in the High Council and how he and Neri got along when they first met! How did they grow so close, and what are some past missions they've been on together? Also, given that the lorebook makes it clear that Neri struggles to identify his own feelings… I want to know how he figures it out! xD I would also love to see them in a post-canon moment -- maybe visiting the Northern Continent together, or hosting visitors from the Northern Continent? In general, enjoying the newfound peace but also still being overwhelmed with work! xD

Aarya de Chabenet/Original Stormhat Character

So in the pre-sacrifice dialogue, Aarya just goes on and on about how beautiful the Stormhats are, while Lucius is all "yeah they eat people", and I would love it very much if Aarya had a past fling or a relationship with a Stormhat!

On a more serious note, I would love to see a younger, happier Aarya who isn't so focused on self-sacrificing all the time (unless they still were?). I would also love to see relationships between plant demons -- clearly the Stormhats weren't so friendly toward Lucius, but would they have been more friendly toward another plant demon? How do different demon species and cultures relate to each other? And what do they think of Aarya's people -- who we know so little about! Also, more Demon Sovereigns, since we see so few of them in canon!

Also, I love flowers and poisons and carnivorous plants, so I would love seeing an exploration of MAGIC POISON FLOWER DEMONS! Gross or horror magic biology details VERY welcome!

Aarya de Chabenet & Nidhöggr
Aarya de Chabenet & Aarya de Chabenet's Adoptive Parents
Emrys of Sheorya & Khaing & Sanda
Lilith & Liv
Sanda
Nidhöggr

This is the list of characters and relationships I want to know more about! For Aarya's parents, I really want to know more about them, especially since they had such a significant impact on Aarya's perspective. Pre-canon moments, sweet or sad? How did the Yutainian war affect them, and how did they meet Aarya and decide to adopt them? And are there any moments where Aarya's "definitely a normal human child" mask slipped? More interactions between Aarya and Nidhöggr -- how did they meet and become friends? When did they start calling each other siblings? And also, Nidhöggr aiding Lucius in his plans -- it's just so potentially juicy! Does Aarya blame her? What does the grief for Lucius look like, from both of them?

Also, AU in which Nidhöggr survives, or in which Nidhöggr is resurrected after all! Nidhöggr's adventures, or her relationships with Lilith and Shawn. For Sanda, what is it like for her at the end of Emrys's route, being queen? And what were her and her brother's relationships with Emrys like, pre-canon -- and how does the mix of fealty and care affect their relationship? I would also be very interested in Emrys taking care of Sanda or Khaing, after an injury or an illness -- let the immortal fox confront human vulnerability. <3 Lilith and Liv -- tell me about the cousins, and the new world they live in.

WB: Any

I love this world a lot and would love to see more exploration of the magic and the demons and the new, hopeful peaceful world that's implied by post-canon! Things I'm particularly curious about: the Sval, their stories, their laws (and who are the heroic figures of the Sval? surely there must be some! and how does being ruled by immortal beings affect their culture? and are there other ceremonies related to the Holy Black Tree?), alchemy and the implications of Iris's discovery (it seems like such a big thing that magic, which seems like a kind of energy, can be created??), demons! The Rosenkreuz's unbinding, and the post-canon effects! What happened among the Sval after Aarta left and the Thing, but also how Sval and the kingdoms' cultures change post-canon, now that there's peace and trade! Basically anything that goes into the effect that the characters and their actions have. <3

One other thing that fascinates me about this canon is how it hints at changes in the world and cultures over time, and how much of what happens is due to ancient history, forgotten by some but still relevant to others (and personal history to some!) I would love to see a work that delves into or comments on that!

The Folk of the Air

My request for The Folk of the Air is basically, Taryn. ;D

Taryn is my woobie who has done quite a lot of things wrong in this fandom, and I love her for it. I love how in one sense she's the "nicer" and "softer" of the sisters, but she's just as messy emotionally as Jude is (perhaps moreso!), and she's so selfish and makes so many bad decisions. I adore her competence at social situations and the way she's adapted to Faerie (and also how traumatized she is, of course), and the way she ends up always getting the better of the people around her -- not without a lot of suffering along the way! And she's so good at surprising people, and her sudden actions really drive a lot in the last two books! Please feel free to whump her, lean into her insecurities, let her make more bad decisions, and let people drive people away from her! <3 Or give her nice things post-canon because I adore her and I want her to have a wonderful comfortable life in which she holds all the power and gets all the love and independence she craves. I would also be particularly fascinated on seeing more of her thoughts on suffering, which came out in The Lost Sister.

I have not read The Stolen Heir; feel free to disregard the canon or use it as you please.

Mediums

Heraldic crests or flower symbolism! Art of characters being gorgeous -- the descriptions of Faerie and all the outfits! Horror, or something that reflects both the beauty and the violence and amorality of Faerie -- or something that reflects the magic of Faerie in contrast to the world that Taryn and Jude still remember! Logic grid murder mysteries! Letters and notes between the characters, or sketchbooks and diaries (Taryn seems like she would keep one!). Also, Reddit (or Faerie Reddit), because it's funny, and Taryn and Jude could both have used some legal advice (or relationship advice…)

I love Faerie and the characters so much, so anything about either of those would be lovely! For anything I've request that doesn't easily fit a ship, I'm perfectly happy to receive something that reflects on both of the characters in some way (like something in the summary that's like "Taryn owned this sketch and showed it to Jude once xD").

Taryn & Jude

The contrasts between them and their survival strategies, and the mix of resentment and loyalty is so interesting! I would just love to see more of them -- their childhood, Taryn's POV throughout the series (with all the ways she justifies her actions to herself), their relationship post-canon.

I would love to see Taryn take a role in faerie politics, in her own way! Also, what happens if someone tries to threaten Jude through the sister that is easier to attack?

Taryn/Nicasia

Hot mean mermaid with a hint of vulnerability! She's very cruel, but she's also so petty about it, and she also seems very young and spoiled. She bribes Cardan with snacks so that he gets revenge on his ex! She does genuinely care about him, and also is so intent on getting justice for Locke. Also, her relationship with her mother seems genuinely sweet, with the line about Nicasia being the most precious thing under the sea.

For this ship, I would love something emotionally intense and fucked-up and filled with tension, possibly with an undercurrent of sweetness. <3 Or something pre-relationship, where they have to work together and maybe discover that they see more in each other than they expect?

I think they have different brands of intensity that would play off each other very well. Let them be messy and terrible together and hurt other people and themselves, and maybe, possibly, even find their way to a happy ending, please. <3 I'm struck by the fact that Nicasia is an outsider in some ways, as a fae of the Undersea among the land -- though of course this has given her a very different set of experiences from Taryn! I've always found it very fascinating how Nicasia's vengeance completely dies down once Taryn marries Locke (she's much more upset with Jude), and also... the whole scene with Jude in captivity definitely gave me vibes that Nicasia was maybe more into mortals than she would ever admit.

Prompts for them in particular:

After the marriage, how does Taryn negotiate the fact that Nicasia is Locke's friend? Do they interact much?
- Likewise, how does Nicasia deal with the fact that Taryn murdered Locke, but is completely acquitted for it and seems about to live a happy life as the new owner of his estate? Does she plan vengeance? Does she confront Taryn?
- Visits to the Undersea! Or more tension between the Land and the Undersea?
- The two of them having to work together! Navigating politics or assassination schemes! If Taryn gets to murder someone again, I would love that. <3
- Arranged Marriage because Reasons.
- Canon divergence in which Taryn somehow gets together with Nicasia instead of Locke! How would that play out?

The DFZ Trilogy - Rachel Aaron

I loved those books and really want more of the characters and the setting. I loved the draconic relationships and the WEIRD dragons in this series, the DFZ and the cleaners, and I would love to see more of that! There's a lot to dig into with the characters' past, and I feel like the series also ended with a new beginning for a lot of the characters -- I would love to see what happens next!

I love Opal so much, with her stubbornness, her impulsiveness, the trauma she carries from a complicated childhood even though Yong meant well, her determination, and her cleverness (while being very naive and making LOTS of bad decisions!). And I adore how draconic she is, in some ways -- her love of treasure, her possessiveness over Nik and her family, her ruthlessness and combativeness (what she does to Yong! how chill she is with all the violence around her!), while still being very human. Her journey throughout the series, coming into her power, learning to understand Yong while being firm about her boundaries, and the life she invents for herself are all so great; I love the hints into the future she's building and the sadness of her past, with the mix of messed-up dragons but also just...very human misunderstandings and the difficulty of family relationships. <3 <3 <3

Mediums

An AMA for the DFZ or dragons (we can't let Bethesda have all the fame, after all!). Reddit and social media? Details of Opal or her father's hoard! Tabloid reporting on Opal and Yong (and White Snake), or something else that reflects how the dragons are celebrities! (And I'm sure the DFZ is working on making sure she's getting into the trending searches. ;D)

Opal Yong-ae/The DFZ

The DFZ is so sweet and so enthusiastic about acquiring Opal, and I shipped them throughout the book! I would be interested in seeing more of this -- maybe an AU in which Opal actually does become a priestess? Or missing scenes from the books, or post-canon now that Opal works for the DFZ as a non-priestess! I'm also curious if the lack of deity-follower relationship might actually be good for their relationship, so that the DFZ has someone she can just be friends with. For DFZ/Opal, feel free to handle Nik and Opal's canon relationship however you like -- a poly relationship, in which they never dated and have platonic feelings for each other (or in which they never become close because the DFZ helps Opal first?). I'm also happy to read post-break-up between Opal and Nik in which they realize they just don't work out (and then maybe Opal can have a city as her rebound? :D)!

Opal Yong-ae & Yong

I love Yong a lot as well, as a Weird Dragon, with his affection for his daughter, his distrust of other dragons, his fondness for humans...and strikingly for a dragon, his willingness to change. Any character study of him would be wonderful, whether pre-canon or post-canon, and I'm really (of course) interested in his familial relationships, with both White Snake and (of course) Opal.

For Yong and Opal... really just anything to do with them, whether pre-canon, a missing scene, or post-canon. This relationship was genuinely one of my favorite parts of the books, and I love them both, with the complicated mix of love and enmity -- Yong trying his best with best intentions, but doing such terrible things. More pre-canon scenes from Opal's youth, and how their relationship changes over time? Other times she's rebelled? What do their lives look like post-canon? I assume he's visiting a bunch (and there's a mention of that Halloween dragon she gifted him which he put on the roof of his mansion...)

Opal Yong-ae & White Snake

More White Snake in general would be lovely -- cowardly, homesick dragon <3 how do White Snake and Opal get along post-canon? And how is White Snake settling in to being a part of her clan again? And is she ever going to think of herself as Opal's aunt?

Nikola Kos/Opal Yong-ae

I deeply appreciate the series for giving my fave a boyfriend who is deeply devoted, thinks she's the best thing in the world, and is willing to upend his life for her, both in major curse-and-reliving-trauma-ways and by getting a couch. I'm happy to read anything. Also I am absolutely convinced that Nik has a hair kink, so if you want to go with that (and I love how Opal appreciates his augmentations because it makes him feel more human to her). ;D

I'd love to see missing scenes, or how their relationship develops post-canon now that they're out of emergency mode. I think it would also be interesting to see them work through relationship conflicts, because I feel like they're still so new to the relationship and both of them carry a lot of trauma, and Nik's only emotional connection being Opal may not be a good thing. With that said, I'm just as happy reading relationship fluff -- it is right and good for my fave to have a very devoted boyfriend, after all ;D Also, post-canon adventures, and what their life managing the museum might look like?

The Forgotten Beasts of Eld

Mediums

This is such a rich world with so much history in it -- I would love to see in-universe documents: records of encounters with the beasts from people throughout time, history texts, songs or poetry... Also of course, art of Sybel's beasts!

Sybel's Beasts
Characters Mentioned in Riddles and Historical References in Books
WB: History of Eldwold
WB: Any

I keep coming back to this canon, because of the wider world and the sense of magic -- the Beasts, the riddles, the bitterness of the politics, and the way what's happening in the current generation reflects deeply entrenched enmities between Sirle and Eld. I'm really curious about the witches and the royalty mentioned in the past, too! What are other wizards and witches out there doing? What is the role riddles play in the cultures of Eldwold? How are the characters and the stories they're involved in remembered by future generations, and does Moriah like catnip? Tell me more about any of that, please. <3

I'm also really interested in the history of women in this world -- tell me about the queens of Eldwold, tell me what the war looked like from Rianna's perspective, tell me about Glower and the witches!
